Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Endoscopy Unit Schedule: Part- time Monday through Friday, 3 shifts/week (9-hour shifts, 0730–1700) Call Requirements: 1–2 weekday on-call shifts (1700–0700) and at least one full weekend call per month (Friday 1700 – Monday 0700)
Reports To: Endoscopy SupervisorPosition Summary: The Part-Time Endoscopy Technician supports the Endoscopy Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, assisting in complex procedures and contributing to safe, efficient care across three specialized service lines: Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, and Otolaryngology (ENT). This technician plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality clinical and technical support during diagnostic and interventional procedures, including advanced GI interventions not performed elsewhere in the region.Key Responsibilities: • Prepare procedure rooms and equipment for scheduled and emergent endoscopic procedures. • Assist physicians during endoscopic procedures by handling instruments, troubleshooting equipment, and ensuring patient safety. • Ensure proper handling and transport of scopes post-procedure in accordance with infection control standards and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) requirements. • Stock and maintain procedure supplies and ensure readiness for all service lines (GI, Pulmonary, ENT). • Participate in on-call rotation for emergent and urgent procedures. • Provide support in managing complex cases, including interventional EUS, ERCP, bronchoscopies with navigational guidance, and ENT diagnostics. • Communicate effectively with the nursing and physician team to ensure smooth procedural workflow. • Uphold Sentara Health’s commitments to safety, dignity, communication, teamwork, and patient-centered care.Required Qualifications: • High School Diploma or equivalent. • Minimum 1 year of experience in a procedural or surgical environment preferred. • Demonstrated knowledge of endoscopic equipment and infection control procedures. • Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire). • Flexible availability to meet scheduled and on-call responsibilities.Preferred Qualifications: • Completion of a formal endoscopy technician training program or surgical technologist certification. • Prior experience with advanced endoscopic procedures, including ERCP and EBUS. • Familiarity with Olympus scope systems and procedural workflow in a hospital-based endoscopy setting."
