Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Full Time Registered Nurse for a Post Surgery/Med Surg Unit (6K)
Department/Position Overview: This unit specializes in the care of the Adult Surgical Patient. Registered Nurses rotate on PODs to assist patients recovering from the following surgeries: Bariatric (gastric bypass/gastric sleeve),Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, GYN Surgery and trauma overflow patients. This is also a Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit.
Experienced RNs and senior nursing students have the opportunity to work in a dynamic specialty surgical unit that offer’s a comprehensive orientation in general surgery, surgical oncology, surgical urology, plastic surgical procedures, overflow trauma, orthopedics and L&D to list a few. 6k also has a Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), where we admit patients for aggressive monitoring of induced seizure activity. As a Level 1 hospital, our patients are often admitted with additional complex medical problems; critical thinking is valued and developed to full learning potential. Nursing experience on unit 6K will establish and build time management skills, strong electronic medical record documentation skills, post-operative care, dressing and wound care management, sepsis identification and opportunities to participate in research in the area of reduction of post operative complications and decrease length of stay within the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program. We also have fantastic core staff that embrace the team work practice of supporting their “wing person” philosophy, mentoring and enhancing education opportunities.
