Overview
Sentara is hiring a full time Facilities Manager for Sentara Obici Hospital, located in Suffolk, VA. This position is responsible for the formal supervision and oversight of approximately 11 employees, a total of 9.0 FTEs, and approximately 400,000 sq ft at 175 patient bed Obici Hospital.
In this role you will be planning, organizing, supervising, and coordinating the activities of the plant operations and maintenance functions. The activities are necessary in maintaining the physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, utilities and grounds in an operative and safe working condition. Coordinate quality customer service activities, including purchasing, payroll, and budgeting processes. Participate in the work activities of assigned teams through providing assistance, serving as the technical resource, and participating in the work as a member of the team.
The Manager of Facility Operations will plan, organize, supervise, coordinate, and control the activities of the plant operations and maintenance functions which are necessary. The leader is accountable for maintaining an effective department, for administering labor and material controls, for training of maintenance personnel in safety and for effective management practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead facilities operations, including proactive and reactive maintenance of building systems
- Manage skilled trades and departmental staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and ensuring high-quality service delivery across all areas.
- Preparing and managing budgets and reporting, including capital planning input, savings programs, and maintaining accurate departmental records and documentation.
- Support facility construction projects as needed, ensuring proper installation practices and code compliance while coordinating with contractors and internal stakeholders.
- Managing Life Safety, Physical Environment, and Emergency Management plans.
NOTE: THIS POSITION MAY REQUIRE OCCASIONAL EVENING OR WEEKEND WORK TO PATIENT CARE OR FACILITY PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES. INVOLVES REGULAR INTERACTION WITH PATIENTS, FAMILIES, AND HOSPITAL STAFF IN A DYNAMIC HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT.
Experience
- 5 years of related experience.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of implementing successful facility and maintenance engineering initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, patients, families, and staff.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
